At some point, Perry deserves a lot of credit. He is one of the best natural...
– No criticism of Rick Perry seems to stick. It’s like he’s coated in Teflon. I’ve got to admit though, he is good at what he does (being a politician, not running the State).

Some things to keep in mind when navigating the...
“Apple’s bothersome tradition of non-user-servicable batteries continues. There’s no reason to do this, frankly, aside from the kind of implied ‘we’re aesthetic obsessives’ claim that Apple still gets away with.” - Rob Beschizza of Wired on the iPhone
“I still can’t believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want...

Apparently I’m the go-to Apple guy in our group of friends, and have therefore been asked by pretty much everyone I know (and even those I don’t know too well) what I think about The Tablet, err, iPad, and if I’m going to get one, and if I think it’s just a big iPod Touch, and what’s so special about it all. I’ve been giving one simple answer and ignoring...

My picks:

Update: I scored 25. I didn’t believe the multi-touch iWork suite and expected more news on cellular carriers.

Getting ready for The Announcement
It’s times like these that I really enjoy being a technology nut. The web is on fire with leaks and rumors (some of them planted? you betcha) of The Tablet. Tomorrow is going to be an exciting day for sure. Will we get The Tablet? Will it revolutionize the way we interact with our computers and content? Will there be new additions to the iTunes Store?… Is there even a Tablet??
Sure....

Setting goals as a Teaching Assistant
This semester I’m TA’ing my advisor’s signature course again (Energy, Technology, & Policy) here at UT and I’m very excited. I took this class in the Spring semester of 2008 and TA’d it for the first time last year. This will be my second time TA’ing the course. I’m looking forward to a great semester; I think this class is really fun and you learn a...

iTunes Cloud
A lot of people are speculating about the upcoming Apple Tablet, but the thing that I keep wondering is how you get content onto the device. To me, this idea is what ultimately defines what The Tablet will do: is it a device for consumption, or is it one for creation.
You really don’t have to know that much about Apple products to make a wild guess and say the only ways to get data onto The...

Commemorative Air Force →
My dad has become involved with the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) down in San Marcos since retiring recently. The CAF is a neat place to go and visit and is essentially a flying museum of some incredible aircraft. Texas Monthly did a nice profile of the CAF at their annual Dinner Dance this year. Check it out!

Die Hard 2
Holly McClane: Honey, it's the '90s, remember? Microchips, microwaves, faxes, air phones.
John McClane: Hey, well, as far as I'm concerned, progress peaked with frozen pizza.

– - Sen. Scott Brown on Climate Change policy
And here’s a great example of what’s wrong with how we design environmental and energy policy. There’s an inherent distrust of the science community and a lack of understanding of how energy is used in this country. We don’t use...

The White House’s message and platform is exploding in front of our faces, but at least we have this sweet iPhone app.

To Tumbl(r) or Post(erous)?
As you know, I’ve been dancing around these different blogging services for the past two months. I used to have a Wordpress blog, but then moved here to Tumblr. For some very odd, and random reason, I started posting over at Posterous. I really hate to do this to whomever is reading this blog, but I don’t know which blogging platform I like better.
I was attracted to Tumblr initially...

Avatar (3D)
I saw Avatar (in 3D) at the Drafthouse this afternoon. I was all set to write a pointed criticism of the movie and our culture, a la Matt Langer, but I’ve decided to take the high road and talk about how I enjoyed this make-believe land of natural wonder and an indigenous society facing the iron fist of the military-industrial complex. So if it’s sarcasm and veiled criticism you want,...

Tablets and Slates, oh my!
I’ve been meaning to write something about the upcoming Apple Tablet/Slate device, but have gotten bogged down with writing conference papers… So here we go! There are already some excellent posts by John Siracusa and John Gruber about what to expect (maybe it’s a John thing?), but there is one question I didn’t see addressed that I want to talk about now.
To me, The Tablet is...
